GREAT PLAINS WATERCOLOR SOCIETY  EXHIBITION

A juried exhibition is in the planning stages. This will be a first of its kind for the Great Plains Watercolor Society. Tentative dates are April 1-30, 2025, with artist Ron Thurston as the judge. Additional details to follow.

The Great Plains Watercolor Society holds exhibitions locally once or twice a year. The next member exhibition has not yet been determined. Watch for details of a future local event.  Listed below are the general requirements for submission for the exhibitions.

NO ENTRY FEE

ARTIST ELIGIBILITY-All exhibitions are open to all GPWS members in good standing who have paid their dues through the opening date of the exhibition. Each member may submit up to two pieces of artwork.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS-All paintings must be original, two-dimensional works in water-based media. All forms of water media include representational and abstract watercolor, gouache, hand-painted collage, mixed media, water-based inks, acrylics, egg tempera and casein. Collage is acceptable, but all pieces must be created by the artist. Cradles are accepted. Copies of other artists’ work will not be accepted, nor will work derived from photographs not taken by the artist. Paintings must be original, not done in a class or workshop. Varnished works are also accepted.

PRESENTATION/FRAMING REQUIREMENTS-All paintings must be suitably framed. Frames must be neutral, simple and sturdy with wire hangings fastened with D-rings. Canvas paintings need wire hangings as well. Watercolor paintings may have glass or archival plexi-glass. Maximum size is 432 square inches, e.g. 16×20 or 18×24. Minimum size is 108 square inches, e.g. 9×12 or 8×14.

SALE OF ARTWORK-Paintings can be priced to sell. All sales are between artist and seller. The following information is placed with each painting, for sale or not. You will provide this information with your submission and a card will be provided for your artwork.

  •      Category: beginner, intermediate or advanced (please rate yourself)

HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR PAINTINGS: Submit pictures of your paintings (up to 2 paintings per person) via email to Marjorie Ness at nessm28@hotmail.com. Specific information to be included with submissions is listed above under “Sale of Artwork”.

    The majority of our exhibitions are free to enter and we encourage our members to price his or her work if interested in selling. All members who have membership dues paid in full are welcome to participate. All entries must be original to the artist, including paintings done from photographs, etc. Other submission requirements, such as media used, size and framing, may be requested as well, depending on the exhibition.
