GPWS meeting
7:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church will
feature Sheila Agee, well known artist and supporter of the Arts in Sioux
Falls.
After earning a B.S. in Art Education from Bemidji State Univ followed by
a M.F.A. in Painting and Drawing from the Univ of Oregon, she returned
to Sioux Falls and became the driving force behind the realization of the
Washington Pavilion. She served as Executive Director of the Sioux Falls
Civic Fine Arts Center from 1987 to 1996 and served as the interim
director of the Washington Pavilion Visual Arts Center in 2015.
Her true vocation has been that of a practicing artist. Her works can be
seen in many major public and corporate collections, including the
South Dakota Art Museum, Raven Industries and Sanford USD Medical
Center. She has exhibited regularly in the region. In 2016, Sheila was
awarded the Charlotte Carver Award for Achievement in the
Arts at the Mayor’s Awards for the Arts, Sioux Falls. In 2016 she also became a
Founding Member of the Great Plains Watercolor Society.
Sheila will focus on “Understanding the Call for Artists.”
And discuss the why, who, and cost of an exhibition.
She has invited our members to bring to the meeting a piece that they
would like her to critique. This is a great opportunity for our members
wanting to learn about juried shows as well as hearing about strengths
and weaknesses in our paintings from one of the region’s foremost experts.
